Nautical Décor: Mix and Match Furniture to Anchor Your Homes Interior

If you live in a beach cottage, or just want to feel like you do, a splash of nautical décor can really add some style to your space. If you are not sure how to go lightly with this trend, here are some decorating tips for every room of your house.

Dining Room

There’s so much you can do in a dining room to create a nautical feel. A clean white linen tablecloth adds a touch of airiness to the room, while a patterned tablecloth can brighten it up. Lighting fixtures often get a lot of attention in a dining room, so instead of a traditional chandelier, look for fixtures in metals such as brass or chrome to add a nautical feel. Set the table with blue and white patterned napkins, placemats, or a table runner. Shell-filled candleholders are great touches that are easy to add. If you want a more formal feel, avoid bright reds and blues and choose light beige or white.

Living Room

The quickest and easiest ways to add some nautical elements to the most-used room in your house are by adding patterns and color. Start by adding throw pillows that feature patterns or stripes in reds, whites, and blues. Or try clean white pillows that feature nautical themes such as seashells, anchors, starfish or seahorses. If you want to freshen up your color scheme, a coat of white or blue paint will create a nautical vibe in any room. The natural fibers of a jute rug complement bold colors on walls and accessories while hinting at the ropes commonly found on ships. If your furniture is more neutral, try adding a boldly patterned blue and white area rug to liven the space.

Nautical Bedroom Decor in Crisp Blue and White from Baer’s Furniture

You can create a cheerful or relaxing bedroom with nautical décor. It all depends on your color choice. Traditional blues, whites, and reds will make a bright backdrop to your room and give you options to use boldly patterned rugs, pillows, and bedspreads. If you like a more calm and soothing space, use crisp white bedding and seashore accessories such sea glass, shells, and driftwood.

It may not be the first space you think about, but adding nautical décor to your kitchen can be quite easy. Light gray or blue cabinets with shiny brass fixtures will bring a beach look into your room. Driftwood accessories and wicker chairs also create a nautical feel.

If you don’t want to go all out, the bathroom is a good place to start with nautical themed décor. If you have a white bathroom, you can add bright chrome light fixtures and subtle sea life prints in metallic frames. If you want a little color, try painting an accent wall navy blue and add towels, a striped shower curtain, and other accessories to complement the color. Use a seashell as a soap dish and a natural sponge for the shower or bath.

Nautical décor offers options for every preference. Go bold with bright colors or elegant with a subdued color palette — it’s your choice.
